The Orange Blossom Express Book Review

The Orange Blossom Express is a total trip back to the hippie 60’s when flower children reigned. This nostalgic look back tells the story of Maggie's conservative humble beginnings in the 50’s and her whirlwind life of the 60’s in California. It is a realistic fun and sometimes gritty tale that many people of this time have traveled.

I found this story extremely refreshing in the accurate and realistic depiction of life during these contrasting and chaotic times. As someone who did not live in this era but have always been fascinated by it, I found the book more truthful whereas other stories of this time tend to stylize and lack. I found the alternating passages of the varying timelines in the novel somewhat of a Magical Mystery Tour and a fun aspect to tie in to the overall theme.
I would recommend this book for people who enjoyed Murder Mountain and The 60’s miniseries. I think people who lived during this time will enjoy the authentic look back. People who didn’t live during the 60’s will appreciate getting the real sense of what it would have been like growing up during this truly unique time in history. Put on your favorite 60’s playlist while reading this book and you will be transformed into another time and place: The Age of Aquarius.
