Fire Ants Book Review

This is the story of a tiny ant village called Antlanta and the ants that live there. On the day that we visit, the Antlanta fire department is putting out a house fire. The droplets of water land in the wrong places, but they are able to get the job done. An aspiring young ant suggests they try out his new invention to help control the water where it is supposed to go. The fire chief gives the young ant a chance to prove himself. Is the young ant ready to be a fire ant? And will his contraption work?

I enjoyed this story by Adam K. White. You get a good sense of the village in the story and root for the young ant to have his dreams become a reality with wit and imagination. The illustrations by Emanuele di Giovine are bright and colorful and will be sure to capture young readers. Originally a family card game, this book is designed to tell a story through the pictures just as much as the text, so this book will be great for young readers just graduating out of picture books.
I would recommend this book especially for kids age 2-6 because the book will grow with them as they build their vocabulary. This book would be really fun to take on a picnic or when learning about different animals.
